1. Conducting Soil Tests
To choose the best fertilizer for your lawn, we need to know the chemical balance of your soil. As part of our lawn fertilizer service, one of our certified fertilizer applicators will conduct various soil tests. These tests check for base nutrients and additional minerals present in the soil.
We check the levels of phosphorus, calcium, magnesium, and potassium in your soil. Our tests also assess the lime requirement index, which helps us decide whether your soil needs calcium carbonate. Our cation exchange capacity test, or CEC test, helps us determine how much fertilizer to apply. Soil tests also show the pH of your soil and its base saturation, allowing us to identify your soil as acidic, alkaline, or neutral. Some tests detect the presence of diseases and pests. Testing the soil allows us to determine the type and amount of fertilizer your lawn requires and to prevent over-fertilization.
2. Determining Additional Lawn Services
Natural Way Lawn offers the option to integrate additional services with lawn fertilization. These services include removing pests, aerating your lawn, and killing weeds. Our state-certified applicators will assess your lawn to determine the types of pests it is vulnerable to and create a treatment plan. We use organic pest-control methods to avoid chemical pesticides that could harm your lawn or your family. Aeration is the process of creating small holes in your grass by digging up small plugs of soil. This enables increased nutrient absorption, making the fertilizer more effective. Your lawn may require aeration before fertilization if your soil is too hard. Your applicator will assess the soil consistency to provide pre-treatment recommendations.
Killing the weeds in your lawn allows your plants to receive the nutrients from the fertilizer without competing with the weeds. You should decide whether you want to get rid of weeds before choosing a fertilization program. Two of our fertilizer programs include weed control or herbicide application options. 3. Selecting a Fertilizer Program
Natural Way Lawn offers three main lawn fertilizer programs that are comprehensive and customizable. The herbicide used in our programs can be upgraded to our bio-herbicide, which is chemical-free. Our specialists will advise you on which program would be best for your lawn. Here is more information about our fertilizer programs:
Naturally Green Lawn Program: Our leading seven-step program is recommended for creating weed-free, green lawns with fewer chemicals. The Naturally Green program uses a mineral-based granular fertilizer, which comes in pellets. It also includes post-emergent weed control for targeted treatments.
Naturally Organic Lawn Program: The Naturally Organic program combines an organic fertilizer and traditional herbicide. This program is recommended for lawns with poor soil structure, as it boosts the soil’s organic matter content. Simultaneously adding nutrients and fighting weeds helps make your lawn healthier and decreases its dependence on chemicals over time.
Naturally Free Lawn Program: Our Naturally Free program provides a fertilization option for lawns that are highly sensitive to chemicals. This program focuses on applying natural fertilizer and does not include herbicides. The fertilizer boosts overall plant growth, so you may notice more weeds in your lawn.
4. Applying the Lawn Fertilizer
Our application specialists spread your chosen fertilizer evenly throughout your yard during the service. We use ride-on equipment to calibrate and distribute the fertilizer according to your lawn’s needs. After applying the fertilizer, we may recommend watering your lawn within 24 hours. Pets and children can use the lawn once it is completely dry. Wait a few days before mowing, and make sure the mower blades are sharp to avoid damaging new growth.
Ask your applicator for their post-fertilizer lawn maintenance and watering schedule recommendations to maintain your lawn’s health.
